The infamous Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, powered by the quite capable Duramax diesel power plant, is obviously a top player in the custom truck market. When coupled with an over-the-top build and Lift’d customization that oozes “west coast” styling cues, it is fitting that this particular Chevy be dubbed “The Beast.” A hulking vehicle raised above massive custom wheels and tires, a truly formidable build on any coast. The project has taken about two years to complete and has been a huge labor of love for owner, Manuel Capetillo. Like his brother before him, Capetillo has been a truck enthusiast for the majority of his life, at this point over 18 years. His previous builds even included rides more on the Slam’d side with a body dropped Silverado fully built to be a show stopper. Manuel, the youngest in his family, looked up to his brothers’ passion for custom cars and trucks with an eye of admiration and expectation. The deep rooted automotive passion passed on to him, which he plans to continue carrying down the line to children of his own someday.

Manuel’s aim in building “The Beast” was to create a truck with his own unique flair and style, while still being a useful hauler. Its a purpose-built project, made to tow to and from shows across the country. This capable Chev is built to “show and tow,” Manuel shared with us during the shoot. His plans and goals have taken him all across the United States, as he seeks to make a stop at every show possible. Having already made it from Cali to Nevada, Arizona, Texas, and Mississippi, next on the radar are Louisiana and Florida. Nothing has been as dependable for the countless long hauls, than “The Beast,” helping to tow friends and fellow Ground Zero club members show rides all over the states.
Customization began with the exterior and went on to include a full paint makeover. The world famous 714 Motorsports gave the Beast its sinister exterior scheme of Bengal Red and Jet Black. From there, Takao Metalworks, not only customized the Bulletproof suspension setup, but prepped it in all necessary fashion, for heavy lift towing, and cross country road trips. We can’t stress enough that Manuel actually puts in work and tows two car trailers across multiple states at a time. The capability for “The Beast” to handle these tasks repeatedly, is a testament to the build quality, which uses a custom ‘bagged rear set up from Air Lift Company to help smooth out the towing and heavy loads.
After the suspension was completed to a degree of quality and capability, Manuel had it custom powdercoated with specific chrome accents, to set the customized suspension off in spectacular fashion. A SBCC big brake kit helps to slow the Beast to a halt, while the custom 10-lug, 22×14.5-inch Super Single Diesel Wheels roll it along. The custom chrome pieces are fitted with Toyo Proxes MT 40/14.5r22 tires. Just above them rest King Shocks and a full Bulletproof 12/14-inch lift kit, including new control arms and Atlas leaf springs. The wheels are properly spun through Moog’s axles and the stance finished off with Air Lift Performance ‘bags, put to effect with dual Viair compressors and a 100-gallon bed-mounted transfer tank to accommodate long travel.
Accessories to The Beast include air horns, Wicked Lighting LED bars, a SnugTop bed cover, and BedRug. The interior consists of Daniel Custom Upholstery suede seats with diamond stitched inserts. Throughout the visible suspension, exterior, and interior trim lies the pinstriping work of Julio’s Striping. Professional Car Audio installed an in-dash 7-inch Touchscreen Pioneer head unit, Rockford Fosgate mids and highs, RF dual 10-inch subs, and 1000-watt JL Audio double amps. The 6.6 Duramax is made even more potent by means of an LMM Compound turbo, custom 5-inch cold air intake system, and RBP full exhaust system. All the power is backed by an Allison transmission and spun through 410 gears. The Beast wears its name plate with pride, proving to be as tough as it looks tearing down the highway coast to coast. For Manuel Capetillo, the Beast is the absolutely perfect truck that his passion led him to build.
